Gaffney A. Jarrell was raised in Atlanta, where she studied at the Alliance Theatre Company. She is a self-taught artist. Atlanta knows her as the “Heartist” because of her abstract painted hearts. In 2010 she replaced her hearts with brightly colored abstract landscapes. Gaffney was chosen as “Female Artist of the Year” in 2011 by Belle Magazine. Most recently, Gaffney was included in the book “Artists Among Us”, highlighting 100 of Spartanburg’s local artists.

Celebration and Cowboy Sunset
Here are two paintings and that are very different. Celebration started out as something else...you can see the blue in the background. I was having a hard day and feeling somewhat frustrated. My technique of using the trowel to scrape away my lost love gave me a reason to celebrate the freedom in knowing that time heals.
Cowboy sunset is actually a beach scene on a somber, gloomy day. The mist and rain gave it an overall casting of green and gray. I beefed it up with some orange and blue and it became what appeared to me a cowboy range....ride em cowboy!

Bling Chicken

Here I am at Carolina Gallery posing with a fun piece I did on old metal siding titled BLING CHICKEN. It came from my neighbor's home they were residing in Converse Heights. I love this photo because we sporting the same hair do! It was my first show in the Upcycle division which means reuse something that once was, but alas, I did not win, however, fun was had by all and my congratulations to Vivianne Lee Carey who won Best In Show!!!...You go girl!!!
